Procedures to initiate a funded research or a joint research project

Our Institute undertakes funded and Commissioned Research projects, public research and development work, and other types of projects that are conducted jointly with private enterprises. We offer total project coordination from the initial stage to the final output of the result. We also carefully assess the needs and tasks on the individual basis and create the optimal scheme for each project.

<h2>What are funded and Commissioned Research projects?</h2>
<h3>Joint Research projects</h3>
<p>Joint Research is a system, whereby a research institution conducts research on a specific subject chosen by a company or another type of organization outside the university. A company or another type of extramural organization concludes a contract with Ritsumeikan University Kinugasa Research Organization, and the Joint Research is then conducted according to this contract by the person in charge of the research belonging to the Institute of Human Sciences, Ritsumeikan University.</p>
<h3>Commissioned Research projects</h3>
<p>The system of Commissioned Research enables Commissioned Research projects to be conducted by a company or another type of extramural organization together with the Institute of Human Sciences, Ritsumeikan University. In a Commissioned Research project, a company, etc., provides researchers and research funds to Ritsumeikan University, and the researchers of a company, etc. conduct research together with the researchers of the Institute of Human Sciences, Ritsumeikan University, using for research the facilities and equipment of the Institute.</p>
<h3>Expenses required for research</h3>
<p>The expenses required for the implementation of a Joint Research project or a Commissioned Research project are paid as follows. They are borne by the company or another type of extramural organization. Also, any goods purchased with the expenses of a funded or Commissioned Research project will be the property of the Ritsumeikan University.</p>
<p class=Total research expenses = A+B+C
A: Direct expenses necessary for the execution of the research (expenses directly necessary for the research such as traveling expenses, costs of fittings and appliances, supplies expenses, honoraria, etc.)
B: Indirect expenses
C: Consumption taxes (5% of (A+B))

Procedures to initiate a funded or a Commissioned Research project

Consultation Please forward your inquiries to the executive office of the Institute of Human Sciences or the research office (Kinugasa). We will coordinate the project to best satisfy your needs. During the planning stage, the university will submit a research proposal for your approval, and we will plan the project together through shared discussion.
Submission of the application Joint Research You will need to submit a “Joint Research application form” and conclude a “Funded-research contract”.
Commissioned Research project You will need to submit a “Commissioned Research project application form”, conclude a “Commissioned Research project contract”, and submit the “Curriculum vitae of an extramural Commissioned Research project member”.
Screening We will decide whether we can accept your application with the internal screening procedures, etc. prescribed by the university.
Conclusion of the contract Both sides will put their signatures on two copies of the “Funded-research contract” or the “Commissioned Research project contract”, and both will retain one copy.
Payment of the research expenses You will transfer the research expenses upon request of the university.
